Advaitic wisdom meant only for those who are seriously in search ultimate truth or Brahman or God.*****

Advaitic wisdom meant only for those who are seriously in search ultimate truth or Brahman or God.

Lord Krishna confesses that the oldest wisdom of India (Advaitic wisdom) has been lost: people misinterpret and falsify it today as they did then. It is not yoga but the philosophic truth. But nobody knows it. The teachers of philosophy and leaders of mysticism or religion do not want to inquire into truth and have no time for it. (Gita –Chap- IV-v.2)

In Gita Lord Krishna says: ~ "This yoga has been lost for ages" the word yoga refers to Gnana yoga, not other yogas: the force of the word this is to point this out. (Chap.IV)

Lord Krishna describes some of the other yogas but devotes this chapter separately to Gnana yoga. So one sees even in those ancient days people did not care for Advaitic Gnana; they wanted religion; hence Gnana got lost. That is why Krishna calls it "the supreme secret."

Advaitic wisdom or Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana is the mother of all knowledge thus, it is not accumulated knowledge. The religion and yogic path have to be dropped if one is seeking ultimate truth or Brahman because they are based on the ‘I’, which is the dualistic illusion.

The seeker has to have humility, patience, sharpness to grasp, the ability to discriminate between the Real and the non-Real and an intense desire for liberation. However, it is important to remember that Advaitic wisdom is not a result of mere ritualistic practice. Ritualistic practices will not help to acquire Advaitic wisdom or Self- knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

The world, in which you exist, exists because of the ‘I’, without the ‘I’, the world, in which you exist cease to exist.

Thus, it is necessary to realize ‘what is this ‘I’.  The ‘I’ is the ignorance. Until one holds the ‘Self’ as the ‘I’, it is impossible to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.  Thus,   the seeker has to get rid of the ignorance, which is present in the form of ‘I’, in order to realize the ultimate truth or Brahman or God.

Perfect understanding and assimilation of the truth hidden by the ignorance have to be mentally grasped.

The world in which we exist (waking) is a mere superimposition like seeing a snake superimposed on a rope on a dark night.

The snake has no independent existence, apart from the rope, it exists because of the rope, and it ceases to exist as soon as a light is brought. The snake then dissolves into the rope. In the same way, when the Soul remains in its own awareness, the mind (I)    merges into it.  The mind and Soul are one in essence. To attain this knowledge is the goal of the truth seeker. The three states then cannot taint the Soul, the innermost Self.

Thus, Gnani’s contact with it is merely like that of a piece of sandalwood, which has long been under water and has thereby come to acquire a bad odor. For a while, the fragrance of the sandalwood been suppressed and the bad odor prevails. However, if the sandalwood rubbed a little, the bad odor disappears and the natural fragrance of the sandalwood becomes predominant.

Similarly, the Soul, the innermost Self’s attachment to the three states is temporary. It cannot be permanent. Think of the Self as the Soul or the consciousness. When one thinks intensely and constantly in this way, the attachment to the three states will then go.

One can attain the Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana by the practice of renunciation of the three states. One has to keep reminding himself that the three states, with all its allurements, are not real, that is, it is not real in the sense that it is transitory. Only the formless Soul is real because it is imperishable. One must mentally renounce these three states and concentrate on the Soul, the innermost Self. Seeker of truth should never run after things, which are ephemeral. Never become attached to the three states, which are ephemeral.

To one who knows the fact that these three states are transitory, the world is not the world and any form of sense pleasure is repugnant. Seeker of truth must be concerned only with the Soul, the innermost Self, become steeped in the Soul. The Soul alone is real and the Self is that Soul. The Soul is in the form of consciousness and becomes oblivious to everything else. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar
